Sizing Guide
How to find your shoe size
Shoe tags vary across regions and manufacturers. Here is how to find your size using exact foot measurements.
Practical reasons to measure before buying
Ligaments and tendons relax over time, and arch flattening can add half a size after age 30 or after pregnancy. A shoe size that fit five years ago may feel restrictive today.
International sizing offsets also complicate ordering. A US size 8 in women's corresponds roughly to a UK 6, but in men's it corresponds to a UK 7.5. Knowing your exact foot length prevents returns on international orders.
Most individuals have one foot that is slightly longer or wider than the other. Always choose footwear sized to accommodate the larger foot.
Brand manufacturing lasts vary in volume. Nike running shoes often fit snugly through the midfoot and require a half size increase. Conversely, classic canvas shoes like Converse Chuck Taylors run long, leading shoppers to buy a half or full size smaller.

Major shoe sizing systems at a glance
United States (US)
Based on the 1/3-inch barleycorn unit. Men's and women's scales are offset: an 8 in women's equals a 6.5 in men's for length.
United Kingdom (UK)
Runs roughly 0.5 to 1 size smaller than US Men's and 2 sizes smaller than US Women's. Indian footwear standards follow the UK system.
European Union (EU)
Uses Paris Points (2/3 cm or 6.67 mm per increment). Sizing is unisex across men and women, meaning EU 41 indicates the exact same length for both.
Japan and Mondopoint (CM)
The shoe number directly indicates foot length in centimeters. A 27 cm foot takes a JP 27.

When to size up or down
Shoe fit involves more than foot length. Shoe purpose, upper material, and foot width dictate how much breathing room you need.
For running and training shoes, leave 10 to 15 mm between your longest toe and the tip of the shoe. During running, your foot slides forward on downhill strikes, and inadequate clearance causes toe impact.
For leather dress shoes and loafers, choose a close fit without painful pressure points. Quality leather uppers stretch and mold to your foot contours over the first 20 to 30 hours of wear.
For wide feet and high insteps, do not simply buy a longer shoe. An overly long shoe causes the flex point to fall behind your natural foot bend, causing arch fatigue and premature creasing. Instead, choose dedicated wide widths (EE or 4E for men, D for women).
